YO-IN – Youth Organisations for Inclusion

YO-IN is a European project funded under the Erasmus+ Programme, aiming to strengthen the inclusion of young persons with disabilities in mainstream youth organisations.

The project supports youth organisations in improving their accessibility, inclusion practices, and organisational capacity through practical tools, guidance and a quality label approach.

Youth organisations play a key role in participation, empowerment and social inclusion. However, many organisations face challenges when it comes to including young persons with disabilities, often due to limited resources, lack of expertise or structural barriers.

YO-IN addresses this gap by developing a tailored methodology that helps youth organisations assess, improve and certify their inclusion and accessibility practices.

The project builds on existing quality frameworks used in other sectors and adapts them to the realities of youth organisations, taking into account their specific characteristics such as volunteer involvement, project-based funding and diverse governance models.

Our main Objectives

Objectives

The main objectives of YO-IN are:

To support youth organisations in becoming more inclusive and accessible
To develop a practical self-assessment and improvement framework
To design a European quality label for inclusion in youth organisations
To identify and promote good practices in inclusion and accessibility
To strengthen the capacity of organisations to engage young persons with disabilities
What Will the Project Deliver

The YO-IN project will develop a set of practical tools and resources, including:

A self-assessment tool (YO-INclusiometer) to help organisations evaluate their inclusion practices
A Disability Inclusion Plan (DIP) to support structured organisational improvement
A European Quality Label recognising inclusive youth organisations
A mapping of good practices in inclusion and accessibility across Europe
A research report analysing the drivers and barriers to inclusion in youth organisations

These tools are designed to be practical, accessible and adaptable to organisations of different sizes and capacities.

Partners

YO-IN is implemented by a consortium of European organisations working in the fields of youth, inclusion and disability:

European Disability Forum (EDF) – Project Coordinator
Somos Europa
Bequal
High on Life Network

The partnership brings together complementary expertise in youth work, disability inclusion, accessibility, and quality certification systems. This diversity ensures that the YO-IN methodology is both technically robust and adapted to the realities of youth organisations across Europe.
